Ideas for Ingatherings

Dear Lucy Leader …

Ideas for Ingatherings

Dear Lucy Leader,

I am in charge of service projects and ingatherings (donations for mission organizations) for my local group. I am looking for some additional ideas of things to collect to help others. Does the LWML have any resources to help me?

Thank you!

Serving Sally

Dear Serving Sally,

Thank you so much for everything you do to help others. It can be exciting to look at new options for serving that are of interest to your group. A resource to help you is lwml.org/posts/free-resources/lwml-toolkit-kits. This page on LWML.org has a list of different “toolkit” ideas for ingatherings. There are quite a few options on the list, so hopefully one of them inspires your group! Consider getting some feedback from your group. Which are their favorites? That could give you plenty of choices for the future.

May the Lord bless you and your group in your endeavors!

Working Together with Different Gifts

Dear Lucy Leader …

Working Together with Different Gifts

undefined

Dear Lucy Leader,

I have a lady that is a great LWML motivator but when it gets down to action time, she backs away. She says I assume too much. This has happened a few times, and I am really feeling down about this.

Thanks for your help,

Frustrated Fran

Dear Frustrated Fran,

What a joy it is to have someone that has a joy and passion for LWML and can motivate your group! First, take this situation to God in prayer, as I’m sure you already have. This devotion, Flowering LWML Leaders, may be a good way to reflect on your role in leadership and how to develop that in this other woman.

Second, schedule a time to talk with this woman before you are at the point of disappointment or frustration, so you are both in a good, open mindset. Remember that every leader has different gifts. Consider the following questions: Are there ways you can work with this woman? Is she open to working with someone to make her ideas a reality? Is she open to other people taking her ideas and running with them to come to fruition? How can you help this woman use her leadership gifts in a way that is fruitful for all involved?

When you actually meet with her, start with a positive statement, then lead into what you are noticing and how it makes you feel. Consider starting your conversation like this, “I really love that you have so much passion for LWML. You have some great ideas for our group. I’ve noticed that when it comes time to make things happen, things often don’t take shape. This makes me feel disappointed. I would like to help make your ideas a reality. Would you be open to working with me to get them accomplished?”

God’s blessings to you as you work through this situation.

Digital Mentorship Tools

Dear Lucy Leader...

Digital Mentorship Tools

Dear Lucy Leader,

I recently became president of my local group. I don’t have a ton of experience and most of the women currently involved in my group are new to the organization too! Do you have any resources that can help me navigate my new role in leadership?

Nervous Nancy

undefined

Dear Nervous Nancy,

Thank you for taking on this important position in your local group and continuing the fellowship, service, and study that it is provided for your members. As always, start with going to the Lord in prayer.

There are multiple leadership tools on the Leadership Development page on the LWML website: www.lwml.org/developing-leaders. I particularly recommend the leader chats to allow multiple perspectives on leadership and the different avenues each person has taken. These chats may provide some of the mentorship that you feel is currently missing in your group.

May God bless you and your group!

Visual Faith Resources

Dear Lucy Leader …

Visual Faith Resources

Dear Lucy Leader,

Help! I have been so overwhelmed at home and at work that when I get to LWML for Bible study, I have a hard time focusing. I keep zoning out and have a hard time focusing on the Bible study. Do you know of anything to help me?

Thank you!

Hectic Hannah

Dear Hectic Hannah,

First I would recommend stopping, taking a breath, and going to the Lord in prayer. He can help you through all things even when life is frantic. Devotion and Bible study are definitely helpful tools as well when life gets overwhelming, but yes, sometimes it’s hard to focus when life has been difficult. I would recommend looking into visual faith practices in addition to other resources as coloring for a calming activity. www.lwml.org/coloring-resources has many resources to choose from that may be helpful.

May God bless you and bring you peace!

Help! I Need Bible Study Resources

Dear Lucy Leader …

Help! I Need Bible Study Resources

Dear Lucy Leader,

Help! The woman in our church who led the Bible studies for my local group is stuck at home with an injury and now I need to facilitate the Bible study! Do you have any resources to help me with this?

Thank you,

Frantic Franny

undefined

Dear Frantic Franny,

I’m very sorry to hear about your group member’s injury. The very first thing I do when presented with an issue that feels overwhelming is take it to the Lord in prayer. He will guide you where you need to go.

The LWML website has many Bible studies and other resources for you. www.lwml.org/all-spiritual-growth has multiple resources for both short and multi-session Bible studies as well as devotions. You can also search for Bible studies or devotions on a specific topic in the search bar in the right upper hand corner of the website.

May God guide you in your new endeavors!

Dear Lucy Leader,

Our group is very interested in adding a monthly service project to our programming. I am having trouble coming up with ideas. Does the LWML have any resources to help me?

 Thank you,

Servant Sally

Dear Servant Sally,

Thank you for your group’s commitment to helping those in need! It is a wonderful goal to give back and spread the Word — whether in your community or globally.

You can find a new mission service activity every month at https://www.lwml.org/mission-service-activities. This resource includes the details of the servant activity and how to go about arranging it. It also includes a devotion, prayer, and Gospel focus to guide and focus your group.

May God guide you in your endeavors!

Thanking and Engaging Your Pastor

Dear Lucy Leader …

Thanking and Engaging Your Pastor

Dear Lucy,

We have a great pastor at our church. Our LWML group wants to support and thank him as well as engage him with our group. What resources are available for something like this?

 Thankful Thelma

Dear Thankful Thelma,

undefined

What a blessing it is for you to have a pastor at your church you appreciate and value! The LWML has several

resources for you. The Pastor Support and Involvement page on the website has a variety of lists to get you started. Towards the bottom of the page, you can find a list of ways to get your pastor involved in the various levels of LWML. Be sure to invite him to your local events so he feels welcome in the LWML.

Pastor Appreciation Month is coming up in October. The page mentioned above also has many ideas to help you support your pastor. Take the time to think about what would be special for him. Prayers and words of encouragement and thankfulness are always appreciated.

May God bless you!
