February 26, 2010 LWML FAITH TALK© PROJECT COMPLETED
The goal of the Faith Talk© outreach training program is that each woman will be compelled to share the gospel, pray for and recognize opportunities to do so, and then confidently live and speak her faith. Many fine materials for outreach training currently exist within the LCMS, but this program is designed to specifically help women become more comfortable with sharing the hope they have because of Jesus Christ. The Faith Talk© packet of materials includes a DVD, a Participant’s Guide of reproducible materials, and instructions for leading a successful workshop. The DVD features tips for women on how to witness to their faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, vignettes of possible witness situations, and “heart stories” with real women sharing their own experiences in talking about their faith. The DVD is divided into three sessions, approximately one to two hours in length, or for ideally for use in a one-day workshop. The Faith Talk© interactive materials offer an opportunity for Lutheran Women in Mission to learn outreach techniques in everyday situations. LWML President Janice Wendorf states in the introductory materials for Faith Talk©: “May our gracious and loving God bless these materials and help each of us to be ready to share our faith story with the people He places in our paths.” The packet of Faith Talk© materials can be ordered from the LWML Office by calling 1-800-252-LWML or online at www.lwml.org. February 16, 2010 2011 LWML CONVENTION LOGO ANNOUNCED The convention logo for the 34th Biennial Lutheran Women’s Missionary League Convention was designed by artist Judy Newell of Chesterfield, Missouri. The theme for the convention is: “Being with Jesus – Living on the Edge.” Both the logo and the convention theme are based on these words from Acts: And they realized they had been with Jesus. “For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.” Acts 4:13b & 20 (NKJV)
The LWML Convention will be held June 23-26, 2011, in Peoria, Illinois. The goal statement for the convention is: Empowered by being with Jesus, I courageously speak of Him and live a life transformed by His love. The convention objectives are that convention attendees will praise the Triune God, encounter Him in His Word, and live boldly as His children. Convention attendees will have the opportunity for personal spiritual growth through worship and study of the Word. They will explore ways to fearlessly live on the edge with Christ Jesus by their side. For up-to-date convention information, see the Winter 2010 issue of the Lutheran Woman’s Quarterly or visit the Web site at www.lwml.org. February 12, 2010 LWML GRANT GIVEN TO LIGHT OF CHRIST CHINESE LUTHERAN MISSION The Missouri District of The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod began the Light of Christ Chinese Lutheran mission program in 2000. Because of the large Asian population living in Olivette (St. Louis County), Missouri, and adjoining communities, the Light of Christ Chinese Mission has been established in the facilities of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Olivette. The primary focus of the mission is to reach, teach, and baptize those who do not know Jesus as their Savior. The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) voted at the Portland LWML Convention in June 2009 to grant $75,000 to help support the work of Rev. Dr. Paul Shaw and the Light of Christ Chinese Lutheran Mission as they reach out to Asian community. The LWML rejoices that the full amount of this grant has been paid. LWML President Janice Wendorf and LWML Public Relations Director Edie Norris, were privileged to worship at the Light of Christ Mission on Sunday, January 31, 2010. During the visit to the mission, there was the opportunity to tour the facility and observe many of the classes offered. After worship and a time of fellowship, President Wendorf shared, “Rev. Paul and Becky Shaw have worked tirelessly in sharing the gospel with the Asian community in the greater St. Louis area. The LWML is pleased to partner with them as they continue this essential work. The importance of the funding of this LWML grant is reaffirmed by the knowledge that many who come to the mission for only a short time while in the United States, will return to China and tell others about their Savior. Many will stay and carry on the work of spreading the Good News in their community.” Light of Christ serves over 140 people on a typical Sunday. Dozens more are served through parenting and citizenship classes, health fairs, and other bridges to the Chinese community. Sunday church services are conducted in the Mandarin Chinese language with an English translator for young children and for English-speaking people who attend. Gifts to support LWML grants can be given through LWML districts, directly by mail to the LWML Office, or online at the secure link on the Web site www.lwml.org.
