Week of January 29 - Reaching a Target Audience

Could there be a young woman, teen or ethnic woman or two or maybe even more in your congregation who might be interested in LWML?  Perhaps she is interested in working to share the Gospel and the Savior’s love with those in her community and the world who need to know their Savior, as well as in serving meals for funerals, Advent, and Lent. I am sure you can think of at least one from one of the above groups.  I encourage you to talk to her, encourage her and direct her to www.lwml.org and the links to the pages of the Committee on Young Women, Friends into Serving Him®, and Heart to Heart Sisters.

The women on these committees are eagerly working to have timely information of interest to your women when they visit the website. For example, young women will find Impressions, a newsletter for young women; guidelines for choosing a Young Woman Representative to the LWML Convention; Joyfully United in Spirit, a planning resource for LWML groups; and many other helpful resources.

Teens will find they are “Empowered for Impact” by: the Word (devotions), community (feature articles about teen groups), giving (a monthly mite calendar) and resources (designed just for teens and teen leaders). If you think a Friends into Serving Him® group is a possibility in your congregation, you need to see these Web pages!

Heart to Heart Sisters has information about what they do both before and during LWML conventions. Are you interested in sending a District Leader to the convention? They are eager to include all ethnic women in the work of LWML.

Since the primary targets for this biennium are “Growing in the Lord,” “Valuing all Women,” and “Living the Mission,” a visit to the LWML website will give you a lot of insight into what you and your group can do to reach these target audiences.

Week of January 22 - Mites at Work

LWML paid a portion of the grant "Lutheran Bible Translators (LBT) Spread God's Word Through Print and Audio."  LBT reports that they have used the funds for making a Komba language edition of the Jesus Messiah Picture Book, used with children for literacy training and teaching about Christ. Audio Scripture portions are also being produced in the Komba language, as well as an audio New Testament in Nigeria.

The Montana District reports that the grant for "Crow Indian Ministry–Montana" not only covers the pastor's salary, but also the expenses of Sunday school materials, Bibles, devotion books, CDs for recording church services and provides emergency aid to community members.

The Music Education and After-School Programs funded by the LWML grant for "Outreach to At-Risk Children–Detroit" are thriving. "The children need Jesus, so we teach them," states director Mary Smith. "They love being here."

Remember all of the grants in prayer as you cheerfully contribute to mites.

Week of January 8 -Make an Eternal Difference

Years ago as a young wife and mother, I attended a weekly Bible study at a rural home in north central North Dakota. I went at the invitation of a hostess I did not know and joined a group of women who were only acquaintances. The Bible study was for 1 ½ hours and child care was provided. I often traveled snow-packed roads on cold winter mornings. There was nothing fancy about our Bible study but it was food for my soul: consistent, faithful, and safe.

As I look back on this time in my life, I realize the growth I had in God’s Word and the wisdom of my friend leading the Bible study. I thank God for this Christian lady, who soon became my friend, who cared enough to invite me and give of her time each week. She planted seeds and she prayed for me.

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you. Psalm 32:8

If your gift is hospitality, host a new Bible Study in your home and ask another friend to take care of the children. Make a difference in someone’s life; an eternal difference.

I am now excited to be in a Bible study using the DVD Bible study by Donna Pyle, Your Strong Suit. Won’t you join me?

Week of January 1 - New Year's Resolution

Many of us will be thinking about New Year’s resolutions this week. I have a challenge for you! Resolve to get God’s powerful Word into the hands of those people He has placed around you. In Isaiah 55:11 God tells us that His Word will accomplish what He intends. In Colossians 3:16 Paul exhorts us to let the word of Christ dwell in us richly. Why not put an LWML prayer book containing prayers and Bible verses written by women for women in the birthday cards you send? Forward an online Mustard Seed devotion to a friend and encourage her to sign up to receive them. The Mustard Seeds fit nicely in bill payments, greeting cards, or with your waiter’s tip! How about leading a Bible study in your home using the new DVD Bible study by Donna Pyle, Your Strong Suit? A DVD and colorful, 85-page workbook make it easy!

You can find these resources in the LWML Catalog, or online. Just type in what you are looking for in the search box on this page. Resolve right now to make and with God’s grace keep this as your New Year’s resolution!
