Week of January 23 - Open Doors
In 1 Corinthians 16:9, St. Paul says, “…a great door for effective work has opened to me…” Two weeks ago when the Mission Grants Selection Committee met to choose the grant proposals that would be eligible to be on the ballot at the 2011 LWML Convention, we witnessed a lot of “open doors” for sharing the Gospel. As we discussed the grants and received input from LCMS officials, we realized the exciting opportunities that we have to support the missions that are experiencing doors that have been opened to the Gospel—some for the very first time.
However, before we choose grants for 2011-2013, we must first finish paying the grants we adopted for this biennium. Seven have requests for funds pending. They are waiting for us to have a huge finish in our Mite Marathon. What a privilege God has given us to participate in His mission in this way! The door is open.

Week of January 16 - Kind Words
“Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.”
This wisdom, spoken by Mother Teresa of Calcutta, provides much food for thought. Words are a powerful tool that God has given to us. Our words can lift sagging spirits, wrap a ravaged heart with warmth, or spur another on to courageous action.
Unfortunately, we can also use words to cause unforgettable pain, launch arrows of revenge, and rip away the last shred of confidence. Often these words glide past our lips with little forethought or control.
Ask God to guard the words that you speak so that they will echo sweetly the word of grace Jesus speaks to us, and be used to build up others for His purposes.

Week of January 2 - Blessed New Year 2011
As we begin this, the first full week of 2011, consider these lyrics written by Isaac Watts:
Our God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal home.
The start of a new year is often a time for remembering the past and anticipating the future. All of our remembrances rest in the hands of the Lord Almighty, our help in ages past. Because he is our hope for years to come, we can anticipate our eternal home with him.
God’s Word in Psalm 90:1 tells us: Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. (ESV)
Whatever changes may occur in 2011, there is one thing that will never change: our eternal God. Rest in His almighty arms as you face this new year. It is my prayer that the mission of the LWML will assist you in your walk with the Lord, and that you will serve Him wherever He has placed you.
